Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out of Balance:
Wyatt Hodgson Condenses Godfrey Reggio’s Film To 5 Minutes
My first thought when I saw a link to this (via @HuffingtonPost) was “but wait, WAIT … what music could you possibly superimpose over a sped-up version that could come close to the power of the integral and indispensable Philp Glass original score??”
Answer? Why, the Art of Noise, of course!
Wyatt Hodgson has brilliantly inserted the Art of Noise’s “The Holy Egoism of Genius” from The Seduction of Claude Debussy. His explanation (followed by a disclaimer):Koyaanisqatsi at 1552% speed. (The year 1552 marks the publication of “A Short Account of the Destruction of the Indies,” an account of the mistreatment of the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas)
…
I have only the highest respect for Godfrey Reggio and Philip Glass (as well as The Art of Noise). This experiment is not meant in any way to diminish the emotional and atmospheric power of the original film, and I highly recommend anyone who has not seen it to do so before viewing this.
nice job.
