foxbat asked: Thanks for the follow. Cannot wait to hear your album, Glass's Solo Piano works are my absolute favourite pieces of music.

nicwarner asked: I know you reached out before about my Glass post, I was wondering if there was anyway you could figure out “Castelli” By George Skaroulis, and maybe make a video of you playing so I could learn haha.
It doesn't appear like the sheet music is in print and no one has an instructional video anywhere.
If you could do that you would be my hero, I really...

Philip Glass is telling you to do your harmony and counterpoint homework!! In his own words (at about the 6.30 mark in this video)
“Doing counterpoint is… I know because I did it… is doing three or four hours of work every day for two or three years. I’m tellin’ you…. You’re teaching your brain to visualise music, in the same way as you’re...

Today, for the first time since I completed the recording sessions for my album “Mad Rush”, I have been able to listen to Philip Glass’s solo piano album and sit back and appreciate the magnitude of what he has created. ( Until now, it just made me compare myself to him. Gah!)

pink dollars
Now that it’s getting to the pointy end of this “Mad Rush” album release, I’m starting to ask myself questions about to whom I am marketing myself.
Is it really worth chasing after the Gay and Lesbian crowd, hungering for the Pink Dollar, searching for Dykon status? I don’t know about these things. What I do know is that I would like some recognition from my own...

Stuck
I promised myself, when I started this little blogging lark, that I would not allow myself to make it all sunshine and rainbows. The process of creating this album is far from that, and I’m determined to be honest about it.
We all have our little insecurities and I am certainly no exception to that. I’ve blogged about my worries on the classical music industry, the status of...

Dracula: Philip Glass and the Kronos Quartet -... →
The author of this review moans a little that Philip Glass’s score occasionally dominates the film, especially its dialogue. I agree, to an extent, but I’m not sure it was a problem with the score itself, it was more of a balance issue. It’s a difficult thing to successfully balance the clear sounds of live performers with the rather more muffled sounds of an old film.
But...

Names for things
I’m a huge fan of Armistead Maupin, beloved chronicler of the white middle class San Francisco gay community.
In his newest novel “Mary Ann in Autumn”, one character by the name of Shawna is a celebrity blogger. There’s one scene where she is pondering her writing career, recalling her failed relocation to New York to complete her book. She was largely basing said book...

Let it breathe
Philip Glass was on ABC Classic FM breakfast this morning. I didn’t quite catch all of it unfortunately, but apparently he made mention of how he thinks people perform his music far too mechanically.
I couldn’t agree more!
I’ve blogged a little about things related to this before ( click here ). I feel so much ebb and flow in Glass’s music, so much humanity and pathos...

Who are you?
I went to see Dracula the other night, the 1931 film starring Bela Lugosi, with a live soundtrack by Philip Glass. It was performed by the man himself, along with Michael Riesman and the Kronos Quartet. It was a dressup event, a crazy midnight screening/performance to a packed hall. There was much excitement in the crowd, a real sense that we were witnessing something truly unique and...

lapsarian asked: Thank you for following! Certainly listening to an album a day and writing a little bit about it is a far less intense undertaking than recording Glass's piano works (I'm excited to see/hear the results!), but it's quite awesome to receive support on what started as a just semi-serious 'new years resolution.'
(GREAT blog name, btw!)

Although this album is ostensibly called “Mad Rush”, things are progressing more like a “Relaxed Perambulation”. Is that ironic? No, it’s just summer holidays.
On the upside, I think I may finally have the opportunity to discuss the album artwork with my producer tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

Inspiration
A choreographer, a painter, a sculptor, a video artist, a photographer or two… With the help of the creatives I know, I think I can create a performance piece based on the music of Philip Glass, that is really something. How lucky I am to know such clever people.
Also, hooray for a brisk walk home in the late summer evening. There’s nothing like it for bringing on a little...

It costs less to download the whole film of Koyaanisqatsi from iTunes than it does to download just the soundtrack. Interesting.
